Anton Kats is an artist, musician and dancer.
Anton's practice derives from informal everyday relationships within a vibrant neighbourhood in Kherson, Ukraine and is complemented through necessity and pragmatics of self-legalisation in Europe via entering formal institutions of education. Developing practice-driven research projects, Kats explores ambiguity of art practice as a question of agency and intentionality and develops site-specific work engaging with structures of self-organisation, self-education, marginalised people and the non-normative.

"Tourist" is an autobiographical video work addressing absurdity and dystopia of citizenship inauguration in Berlin, Germany. Having a camera hanging around my neck, continuously filming, the work cuptures a moment of bureaucratic metamorphosis from a stateless refuge into German and European citizen. Before, during and after the ceremony I am involving diverse ceremony participants in conversations while staying open and curious. Trying to outline different coordinates within diverse narratives and anecdotes it is a journey through multiple and dynamic spaces, stateless cues, receptions, speeches, populist slogans, swears and collective singing.
