MIRO are an orchestra with musicians from across the globe.
Manchester International Roots Orchestra’s repertoire skillfully combines diverse musical influences from haunting Eastern European melodies, to the delicate textures of Middle Eastern percussion and vocals; through to soulful Sufi chants of South Asia, joyful African gospel – embracing rap, hip-hop, classical music and jazz along the way. We are a unique ensemble of musicians with roots from across the world including refugee musicians.
Last autumn MIRO were thrilled to close the Journeys Live stage at Cathedral Gardens, Manchester. They performed a characteristically globe-trotting musical set to some uncharacteristic Manchester sunshine. They opened with Roma music before moving to Kurdish and then to West African with many stops in between, led by their musical director Michael Cretu.
