The U.K.'s first festival of Sanctuary

Journeys Festival International is an annual arts festival that celebrates the creative talent of exceptional artists from sanctuary seeking backgrounds and shares experiences of refugee and asylum-seeking communities through artistic and creative encounters.

 

We work with artists from around the world to commission, programme and curate a festival that is a vibrant mix of performance, visual art, film, literature, workshops and discussions.

 

We are proud to be the UK’s first Festival of Sanctuary, accredited by City of Sanctuary.

The festival, produced by ArtReach, takes place annually in Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth. This year, due to Covid-19 and social distancing restrictions the festival will take place online.

We would like to specially thank our three ROOTs Groups. The ROOTs Group is a team of dedicated and inspiring individuals who come from across the globe, made up of many ages, religions, languages, and cultures. The ROOTs group gets involved with projects, works with artists to create work, share thoughts, and guide the creation of the festival programme each year. The group challenges and helps us to better understand the breadth of cultures, people and experiences within the sanctuary seeking community, helping to develop an inclusive and diverse programme.
