Journeys Festival International is the UK’s first Festival of Sanctuary, delivering the annual festival created by artists exploring the refugee experience and global cultures for almost a decade. The festival usually takes place at different times of the year in Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth, however due to the pandemic, last year’s festival went fully digital for the first time.

 

This year, the festival team have decided to go one step further and programme the festival in three different cities during the same ten days this October.

As a first taking place at the same time - from 15 to 24 October - the three cities will be filled with large-scale exhibitions, performances, workshops, virtual reality experiences, global cuisine and digital projects, mostly for free or a small donation.

All donations go towards supporting the festival, our artists and to keeping our work accessible. With Journeys Festival International being a Festival of Sanctuary, we want to encourage as many people from refugee and sanctuary-seeking backgrounds to join our festival activity and discover arts and culture in various ways, hereby also giving artists a platform to show their incredible work. The festival further aims to offer a better understanding of the refugee experience to all audiences and seeks to create spaces for people to get together and learn more about each other and their individual journeys.
