Journeys Live is a day of free, live entertainment celebrating talented artists from around the world. Featuring a truly global line-up of live music, performance, dance and food from across continents, there’s plenty to get involved in. From crafty workshops for all the family to stalls to find out how you can help support refugees and asylum seekers.

 

You can even take part in a Bollywood dance session.

MAHROO DIBA

(12.00pm)

Mahroo Diba plays classical guitar, harmonica, setaar (a classical Persian instrument) and sings. Mahroo writes her own music as well as performing traditional Persian songs and is part of local group Global Sounds Portsmouth.

THE CHANNEL (12.00pm - 5.00pm)

Join us for the end celebration of The Channel for an opportunity to listen to the
messages recorded throughout the week and to meet the artist behind the project.

WORLD HARMONY ORCHESTRA

(1.30pm)

The World Harmony Orchestra is an ensemble of professional musicians from all over the world, performing for peace
and raising awareness for humanitarian causes.
Organisations they have collaborated with include Amnesty International,
Grande-Synthe Refugee Camp and Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants, among many others. Their programme, arranged by
director Romain Malan, features traditional music from countries currently affected by war and the refugee crisis.

BOLLYWOOD VIBES

(12.45pm & 2.30pm)

Bollywood Vibes is a professional all-female dance company, consisting of dancers
from diverse backgrounds specialising in Classical Indian, Bhangra, Kathak and
Bollywood. They also have dancers trained in western dance styles such as Street,
Contemporary, Hip Hop and Ballet, which they have used to create a unique and exciting fusion of Bollywood dance.

 

Come and join them for the workshop to prepare a special flash mob for Journeys Live.
All welcome – bring your dancing shoes!

HAMSA MOUNIF 

(3.15pm)

The magnificent Hamsa Mounif has a truly captivating classical Arabic voice. Her dedication to music has led to her participation in projects ranging from ‘The Voice’ Arabia to the National Orchestra
of Syria, global tours with The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians and collaborations with Damon Albarn, Faia Younan and Paul Weller.
Due to difficult circumstances in her home country, Hamsa is now residing in the UK where she has continued to perform
at WOMAD, Cambridge Folk Festival, the British Museum and Royal Festival Hall. Hamsa’s true warmth shines through her music, her charisma and soaring voice touching audiences wherever she goes.

AFRO CLUSTER

(4.00pm)

Cardiff-based Afro Cluster are renowned for their unique and exciting blend of Afro funk and Hip-Hop. Utilizing cuts, a full horn section and rhythm section as well the MC stylings of Skunkadelic, they’re frequently
described as having a colossal sound and an explosive live show.
After 2016’s critically acclaimed EP ‘We Don Land’, the band is currently writing their debut album for release in the near
future. Keep your eyes and ears peeled!
