Eastern Europeans for Dummies by There There joins the bill

50% Romanian, 50% Serbian, There There is a politically engaged performance company whose work grows out of intimate political and social frustrations, conjured by Dana Olarescu and Bojana Jankovic. Through humour, wit and play, they explore themes of immigration, immigrants’ public identity, exclusion, national identities, institutionalism and heritage. Journeys Festival International hosts these themes as part of There There’s Eastern Europeans for Dummies Summer Fete. Come and join in the fun! Games range from Hook A Job, Wheel of Benefits, and Guess the Burden of the Eastern Europeans to throwing a Bag in a Bucket, the winner throwing 5 tea bags into a tea cup to win… you guessed it… A B

VOICED - Part of Refugee Week

As part of Refugee Week 2016, we had the pleasure of hosting the talents of the East Midlands refugee community, in association with the Platforma Network. The basement of The Exchange, Rutland St, became a glittering lair where our audience sat back, relaxed and enjoyed a jazz lounge vibe, a welcoming environment for all. Our compere Charlie opened the evenings events with gusto, followed by a poignant poem. Bobba Cass reiterated the line of MP Jo Cox "Far More Unites Us than Divides Us," both setting the tone for the evening - one of hope, potential, and peace. We’re incredibly excited to announce that the Community Kite Project will be joining us at Journeys Festival International, expertly leading free kite making workshops. A popular form of entertainment throughout the world, kite flying is a firmly embedded tradition in countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Chile and Brazil. The best-selling book, The Kite Runner by Afghan-American Khaled Hosseini, increased awareness of the tradition in the UK, and now it is internationally recognised as an event associated with freedom, outdoors, imagination and possibility.
