Journeys to Portsmouth

As part of Journeys Festival International Portsmouth (19 - 29 October 2017) a unique project will be exhibited that has been in development across the Summer of 2017. Journeys to Portsmouth introduced established migrants living in Portsmouth with refugee and asylum seekers new to the city. The pairs attended workshops in which they spoke about feelings of belonging and welcome in Portsmouth, their personal ideas of what it is to be at "home", whilst exploring the city to learn about Portsmouth's extraordinary heritage. Journeys Festival International celebrates the creative talent of exceptional refugee and asylum seeker artists, and shares refugee experiences through great art and culture. This year, our headline performance piece is a new commission from Aakash Odedra called #JeSuis (In Progress). Portsmouth Explores How to become a City of Sanctuary

A new City of Sanctuary group in Portsmouth, led by British Red Cross and inspired by Journeys Festival International arrival in the city in 2016 held its initial meeting on Wednesday 20th September to explore ‘how Portsmouth can become a City of Sanctuary.
