High impact and large scale, Look Up is Journeys Festival International's outdoor visual arts exhibition. You'll be able to spot the works on the exteriors of iconic buildings across Manchester's cityscape from 01 - 12 October.
The commissioned artist for Journeys Festival International Manchester 2016 is Jamal Jameel. Originally from Iraq, Jamal was selected from an open-call of Manchester based visual artists from the refugee and asylum seeker community. Jamal is currently studying photography at the University of Salford and likes to shoot portraits, landscapes and travel images.
For this exciting new commission, The Beholder, Jamal worked closely with refugees and asylum seekers from the Manchester community to create a powerful series of assisted self portraits. The series explores the relationship between camera, photographer and model. Jamal asks his models to take the photographs using a wireless shutter remote, encouraging the viewer to think about how they see the subject and the subject sees themselves.
