Creative Europe: Journeys Festival International awarded funding
We are delighted to announce that Journeys Festival International has secured funding from Creative Europe, through the special EU Call for arts projects that support the integration of refugees.
The Call attracted 277 applications and only 12 were selected for funding, which further emphasizes the quality of the proposals for developing Journeys Festival International with a fuller European dimension. The funding supports development of the Festival in Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth in 2017, but will also involve collaborative working and delivery of strands in Hamburg, Rome, Palermo and Budapest. This means more artistic partnerships and an enhanced opportunity to work with creative organisations supporting refugees and asylum seekers in Germany, Italy and Hungary. We are delighted to be working with our partners in Europe - Explora, il Museo dei bambini di Roma (www.mdbr.it/en), CESIE (www.cesie.org) and Altonale GmbH (www.altonale.de) with an Associate partner, Trafo (House of Contemporary Arts) in Budapest.
Journeys Festival International is a celebration of the exceptional artistic talents and incredible stories of refugee and asylum seeker artists – creating a positive interface with the general public, through great art and culture.
David Hill (ArtReach Director) said: “2016 has seen the festival develop substantially to reach new audiences and create outstanding new work delivered by a range of refugee artists working in performing, visual and digital arts. We can now look forward, with the continuing commitment of Arts Council England through Ambition for Excellence, to developing exciting, challenging and wide-reaching festivals in 2017.”
