Journeys Festival International has continually grown and developed since its inception in Leicester in 2013. The festival celebrates the artistic talents and incredible stories of refugee and asylum seeker artists, creating a positive interface with many different areas of the community through great art and culture.
2016 saw the festival host its inaugural events in the cities of Manchester and Portsmouth, as well as a significantly enhanced programme in Leicester, supported by Arts Council England Ambition for Excellence funding. In 2017 Elements of the festival will also be taken to the cities of Palermo, Rome, Hamburg and Budapest under the JOURNEYS project, having been awarded Creative Europe funding through the European Union.
