Journeys Festival International Wins Prestigious Award for its Support of Refugee Integration

City of Sanctuary UK ( awarded Journeys Festival International ( (JFI) the UK’s first ‘Festival of Sanctuary’ Award – a prestigious title to recognise the festival’s work to support those seeking refuge in the UK.



Journeys Festival International supports refugee artists in the UK cultural industries, giving more opportunities and celebrating their stories through great art and culture.  City of Sanctuary UK is a charity that is committed to building a culture of hospitality and welcome for people seeking sanctuary across the UK. Journeys Festival International works closely with the frontline charities including British Red Cross and, notable, City of Sanctuary groups in both Leicester and Manchester.


In 2017, Journeys Festival International provided Refugee and Asylum Seeker Awareness Training to its cultural partners and developed the ROOTS Refugee and Asylum Seeker Advisory group for the festivals with the help of City of Sanctuary.
