Refugee Week is on 18-24 June 2018. ArtReach through Journeys 2018 has a full programme of events to celebrate Refugee Week in Leicester, Manchester and Portsmouth. Join us in celebrating the contribution of refugees in the UK by attending music, talks, exhibitions and coffee shop conversations. Check our full programme below and join us!

 

 

Refugee Week in LEICESTER:

 

Celebrate Refugee Week at New Walk Museum, with lots of free activities on Sunday 17 June. ArtReach facilitates a re-labelling of the World Arts collection. See full details here

 

MIGRATE exhibition is coming to LCB Depot in Leicester 17-23 June 2018. See the full event page here.

 

Don't miss the Exhibition Launch on Monday 18 June at 5PM, where you can see a preview of the exhibition, hear an introduction from the artist, all for free and with complimentary drinks! 

 

Suspended is coming to Leicester Cathedral. The installation is by Arabella Dorman. Suspended forms part of a full programme of events coordinated by ArtReach and will be open to the public, free of charge between 20 June and 28 August 2018.

Refugee Week in MANCHESTER:

 

Ancient Objects, New Writing is a fantastic project at Manchester Museum on Tuesday 19 June at 3PM. You can read the blogs written on this project here and here. Join the event on Tuesday to find out more, a perfect occasion to visit the museum too!

 

Journeys 2018 Queer Cafe Takeover takes place at HOME cafe bar in Manchester on Wednesday 20 June at 8PM. ArtReach through Journeys 2018 has teamed up with Lesbian Immigration Support Group (LISG) to bring you an evening celebrating diversity and the rights of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees in Manchester, through live music from young Eritrean singer Neda Naser, great art, craft activities and a quiz. Thursday Lates: Takeover is a unique Thursday Lates at Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester on Thursday 21 June. It starts at 6PM. ArtReach through Journeys 2018 is hosting a unique takeover of the gallery. The event celebrates 20 years of Refugee Week with international sounds, performances and creativity from around the world.There is a full programme of events that you can find here.

Refugee Week in PORTSMOUTH:

 

Simo Lagnawi has a gig at the Edge of the Wedge (The Wedgewood Rooms) on Wednesday 20 June at 8PM. Join us for a special evening with Ambassador of Gnawa Culture in the UK, Simo Lagnawi.PLUS, Support from Portsmouth based Hip-Hop, Jazz, Reggae band Omar Baba. Simo comes to Portsmouth as part of Portsmouth Festivities, Refugee Week and in partnership with Journeys 2018 and The People's Lounge. Full details here.

 

Memory and Emotion is the theme of the coffee shop conversation by Chat Over Chai, taking place at Portsmouth Guildhall Cafe on Thursday 21 June between 12:30 and 2:30pm. Brighton based artist Hong Dam will read a short extract from her debut novel, Sympathy For The Dandelion, before speaking to Dr Charles Leddy-Owen about her work and influences, reflecting on her childhood and how her childhood dreams and memories have shaped her. All free and tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided, so do join us!

 

Crafty Sunday is  a free family-friendly day of activities on Sunday 24 June at Aspex Gallery with British Red Cross. This is part of Portsmouth Festivities. There will be opportunities for families to take part in several creative arts workshops including banner making, textile workshops and poetry to celebrate diversity in the city.
